The Problem – Child Abuse and Neglect

  • 3 million children are reported as abused, sexually molested, emotionally damaged, or severely neglected each year.
  • There are 4,800 children in foster care in South Carlolina alone.  Approximately 1,200 of them are between 7 and 11 (The RFKC camp ages)
  • Victims frequently end up on the streets or in prison.
  • Many grow up to abuse or neglect their own children.

The Treatment - Summerville Royal Family Kids Camp (RFKC)

  • Lowcountry Foster Children spend a royal week at camp with loving and well-trained counselors and staff.

The Impact – Immeasurable

  • Our first camps have had tremendous success, hosting young foster children from Dorchester, Charleston and Berkeley Counties.
  • Campers enjoyed a variety of activities including swimming, fishing, boating and an activity center full of opportunities for them to express their creativity.
  • Campers learned about Joseph in a daily drama with music and lessons that taught them how special we all are.
  • At Everybody’s Birthday Party, the children enjoyed waterslides, a petting zoo, piñatas and of course, birthday cake and presents.  For some of these foster children, they were blowing out candles for the first time.
  • The campers stepped up to the challenge of a low ropes course, working as teammates rather than competitors or adversaries.
  • The young ladies enjoyed a fabulous tea party with gowns and grown-up make-up and accessories in a royal dinning room.  Last year's special guests included Miss South Carolina, Valarie Kobrovsky, Miss North Charleston, Noelle Crawford, and Miss South Carolina Teen, Keyla Childs.  This year Miss North Charleston Teen, Emilie Sears joined our girls.  No one will forget these tea parties.
  • .It’s clear that a week of Royal Family Kids’ Camps made a huge difference in these foster kids – and our counselors and staff.

The Investment -  Over $500 and 150 volunteer hours per child!

  • These foster children have been deprived of so much that we take for granted – family, friends, simple possessions and especially good memories.
  • Turning that around and giving these special children hope isn’t cheap or easy but it’s worth it.
