The following resources provide information about violence and abuse against women and children. I have found each site to be useful but not everything on each site is useful. Use the info with caution.
SELF DEFENSE
The Cornered Cat - Primarily about women’s self defense and handguns although there are articles about pepper spray and other non-lethal means of self defense.
See Sally Kick Ass - I can’t recommend this book highly enough. Much of the material I teach in my class is covered in this book. Fred Vogt and I have very different backgrounds but have come to many of the same conclusions. Simply a great resource.
Surviving a Stalker by Linden Gross - One in 12 women will be the victim of a stalker. Sometimes benign, sometimes deadly, every woman should know about stalkers before they have to deal with one. This book does a pretty good job of laying out an actionable approach to preventing and stopping a stalker. Once a stalker begins, they can be very difficult to stop. I don't think there are any great books on stalking but this is the best.
B.E.L.T Training - If you think you'd like to carry a handgun for self defense, contact my good friends, Tommy and Lisa Judy at BELT Training. They teach basic Concealed Weapon courses, including "ladies only" classes and they have a variety of advanced classes as well.
AWARE - Arming Women Against Rape and Endangerment. AWARE is a non-profit organization that provides a variety of courses, primarily in the Massachusetts area. They have some good resources, especially their articles and "books and websites" page.
Fierce and Female – One of the best DVDs about practical self defense especially for women. Melissa Salt (AKA Doctor Ruthless) demonstrates some good strategies and techniques.
PREVENTION
Darkness to Light - Preventing child sexual abuse
