Leadership is the art and science of influencing and directing people to accomplish a goal. The two fundamental aspects of leadership are the people and the goal.   Good leaders never lose site of the goal while getting the most from their people.  Skillful leadership is an art that requires much time, effort and experience to develop.  While there may be "natural born leaders" who require little study of the art it is just not normal.  Most leaders may have some natural ability, but they require years of study and practice to become truly good at it.  These pages provide some basic background information, useful to many leadership arenas.

There is no substitute for experience...but knowledge helps.

The lessons and principles on these pages, from the basics of understanding how people work, to how groups form and then develop, through the styles of leadership to the highest levels of motivation and cohesion are consistently important.  Ignoring basic principles is a recipe for failure.
